Statement on Anti-Racism

The Middlebury Economics Department stands in solidarity with Black students, colleagues, and community members who live with the stress, fear, despair, and violence that structural racism has created and maintained for generations. Read our Statement on Anti-Racism.

Statement on the Invasion of Ukraine

The Middlebury Economics Department condemns in the strongest possible terms Russian government’s unprovoked military assault on Ukraine and President Putin’s use of historical distortions and cynical lies to justify Russia’s attack on Ukrainian sovereignty. We stand with Ukraine and with all the people of Ukraine, Russia, and worldwide who oppose this war, an unprovoked war of aggression that is destroying the homes and lives of countless innocent people.

We encourage our students, alumni, and the Middlebury community to support Ukraine any way they can.  In addition to whatever individual support department members have and will show, we have also donated, under the name “Some Colleagues in the Middlebury Economics Department,” to funds administered by the Kyiv School of Economics.
