Alumna Career Conversation with Pui Shen Yoong ’12 from the World Bank

Join us for an informal event to meet and learn from Pui Shen Yoong, a Senior Economist at the World Bank in Washington DC. Shen has spent a decade at the World Bank, covering various countries across Asia (Maldives, Indonesia and her native Malaysia) and Latin America (Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay). 

She holds a Bachelor’s in International Politics and Economics from Middlebury College (‘12) and a Master’s in International Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (‘17). This will be a good opportunity to explore what careers in multilateral organizations such as the World Bank could look like and to ask questions. This is not a formal recruiting event.

Austin Frerick describes the rise to power of 7 “food titans”, whose exploitation of consumers, farmers and workers has contributed to high prices and poor conditions for farmers and workers. Frerick is a Yale University agricultural policy fellow and the author of Barons: Money, Power and the Corruption of Food Industry, chosen as a Kirkus Review Best Indie Book of 2024.

  • Is the United States Still a Democracy? Political Scientists Discuss the Present and Future of Our Country

    Journalists and politicians are increasingly describing contemporary American politics as in “constitutional crisis” or as “not normal times.” To better understand what is happening, a panel of political science experts on American and comparative politics will discuss whether the United States can still be categorized as a democracy. They will point to the developments they view as most threatening and discuss what elements they are focused on to judge the future of the United States.
