Dear Students,

The U.S. Department of State has just announced a Global Health Advisory Level 4: Do Not Travel. This advisory indicates that American citizens abroad should either return home or stay in place due to the coronavirus pandemic. Those who stay in place must be prepared to remain abroad indefinitely.

Given this change, Middlebury now advises you to return home immediately.

I know this message will come as a great disappointment and is one we had hoped to avoid.

Most of you are studying at universities that have now implemented online learning, so you can complete course work remotely. Please follow the instructions provided by your host university, and be sure to consult the International Office at your host university about any requirements or processes you must complete for leaving. Please also let Stacey Thebodo know your travel plans as soon as you have them in order.

Some of you are studying on programs that have already suspended, but we wanted to make you aware of our advice in case you have not yet returned home.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office if we can be of any support. These decisions never come easily, and we never could have imagined that we would be suspending all of our programs and calling all of our students home from abroad. While are all saddened by this situation, your health and well-being are our greatest concern.

Sincerely,

Carlos Vélez,

Dean of International Programs
