A native of Beijing, Tao Hong received her BA in English Literature from Beijing Foreign Studies University in 1988, a Certificate in Applied Linguistics from the University of Warwick, England, in 1994, an MA in Chinese Linguistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2000, and is currently a PhD candidate in Chinese Linguistics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison conducting research on Chinese phonology.  She was a Foreign Student Advisor and Administrator in the International Students Office at Beijing Foreign Studies University 1988-1993, and a lecturer of English from 1994-1998.  From 1998 to 2004, she taught all levels of Chinese at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Princeton University.  Tao Hong became the founding director of the Middlebury School in China in 2004.
