The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, in response to feedback from the department’s Student Advisory Council, is piloting a new application process for coordinating student research opportunities.

Our goal is to increase equity and transparency within the process. We anticipate that the number of you who are eager to participate in research dramatically exceeds the current capacity in our labs, but please be assured that we are doing our very best to provide as many students with research opportunities as possible.

The first step in seeking a research position in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry is to complete the Research Common Application. Your responses will give us a chance to review your interests and preparation. We will review applications and meet collectively as a department to match students with faculty members who have open positions. To assist you in the process of identifying potential faculty members who you may be interested in doing research with, faculty who may* have research positions available to start in Summer / Fall 2023 have posted short videos about work in their lab.

The deadline to apply for research positions that would begin this summer and fall is Friday, February 24, 2023.

We will be in touch about the status of your application later this spring. If new research positions become available*, including ones starting in the winter or spring of 2024, we’ll announce another call for applications in the fall.

If you have any general questions about the application process, please contact Prof. Dovey (cdovey@middlebury.edu) or Prof. Cotts (bcotts@middlebury.edu).
