While On Leave
In addition to making progress towards the goals they have for their time away, the following are some of the most important things that students should do while on leave:
- Monitor their Middlebury College email weekly.
- Be mindful of important dates such as the deadline to petition to return from their leave of absence, the deadline to submit forms associated with the medical return process if applicable, course registration, housing registration, and student financial forms
- Refer to their Leave of Absence letter to understand the specific requirements and corresponding deadlines for their return process
- Reach out the Center for Health and Wellness if they have questions about the Medical Return Process, if applicable
- Reach out to the Center for Student Success with any other questions or if they would like help with planning or preparing for their transition back to being a full-time student
- Remain actively engaged with college officials throughout all stages of the return process.
- Petition to return from their leave of absence by filling out this form.
- Let the college know if they are electing to extend their leave of absence by filling out this form. Doing so will help ensure that students receive timely emails and can participate in housing and course selection processes.
Failure to respond to college officials or to remain actively engaged in the return from leave process can be a signal that a student is not ready to resume full time study.
If you are a student struggling to stay on top of things or remain in communication, have a candid conversation with someone you trust about your return. Family, friends and health providers can be good sounding boards. You can also reach out to staff in the Center for Health and Wellness or the Center for Student Success.
Our only goal is to support your health and ability to reach your academic goals while contributing positively to our residential learning community.
