Leaves of Absence
Every semester, students take a break from their studies at Middlebury College for a range of reasons.
These reasons may include the following:
- Taking time to explore internships or personal goals
- Tending to health or medical needs
- Catching up on course credits
- Serving their country in the military
- Being with or supporting family
Leave of Absence Process
If you are thinking about taking a Leave of Absence, withdrawing, or you are facing challenges that are interfering with your ability to thrive at Middlebury, make an appointment with a Student Success Dean for personalized support and assistance. You can either stop by their office in the entrance to Classic Battell South or email studentsuccess@middlebury.edu to connect with a dean.
To officially withdraw from Middlebury College, you are required to meet with a Student Success Dean. Email studentsuccess@middlebury.edu to schedule a virtual or in-person appointment. After this meeting, students will then need to confirm their decision to withdraw or take a leave of absence by filling out the Undergraduate Withdrawal Request Form.
