Students completing a major in Black studies will take courses and pursue projects that will help them develop knowledge and skills to engage effectively in many academic or work settings.

These skills include the following:

  • Intensive listening.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Effective oral and written expression.

Students will also learn strategies for working independently and with faculty and peers in group settings.

In their senior work, students will hone these skills and continue developing the discipline necessary for successfully completing an extended project in their chosen area of concentration—which can be utilized in many professional for-profit and nonprofit work settings.
