Students in STAT 0261: History of Statistics will portray historical statisticians. Each of the statisticians will open with a brief introduction, followed by an opportunity for attendees to wander and ask all of the burning questions they may want to ask these historical statisticians (don’t worry if you don’t have any, sample questions will be provided).

In 1950, Alan Turing proposed an “imitation game” to address the question of whether computers could exhibit intelligence. His paper, published in a philosophy journal, sparked and continues to spark many responses. We review the background of Turing’s paper, the history of these responses and examine how Turing might view the current state of Artificial Intelligence.

Middlebury students helped revive the Green Chicken Math Competition at Williams College on April 11. Our Yerin Lee participated in the winning team, helping to bring the trophy back to Middlebury!
The 86th Annual William Lowell Putnam Competition occurred on December 6, 2025. Congratulations to the Middlebury Putnam team for placing 78th out of over 400 schools, with Yuchi (Benjamin) Zhang individually ranking 172nd out of the 4,329 participants! Go, Panthers!!
Assistant Professor Jen Crodelle was recently awarded two major research grants from the NSF and NIH to study neuron functioning and chronic pain. Congratulations, Jen!
