Live Class: STEM

In Advanced Field Biology, offered during the winter term (“J-term”), students conduct field-based scientific research on coral reef ecosystems in the Bahamas, and integrate this field experience with broader biological disciplines from molecular-based genetic work to broader ecological and conservation biology frameworks. In addition, students work with local community members to address social and cultural impacts of this work. This course is taught by biology professors Erin Eggleston and Jeremy Ward, who also teach courses on microbiology, ecology, and genetics.

The Feb Experience

Live Class: Social Sciences

How do states, international organizations, and NGOs respond to the humanitarian impulse – the call to alleviate the suffering of others? In the Politics of International Humanitarian Action, students examine aid and intervention in civil wars and natural disasters, and explore the role of state sovereignty, national interest, global power disparities, and morals. This course is taught by Sarah Stroup, associate professor of political science. She also teaches courses on international politics, democracy, and global security.

Live Class: Arts and Humanities

In Re-Presenting Slavery, students examine 20th century American portrayals of chattel slavery through creative works and situates them in their historical contexts. This course is taught by Will Nash, professor of American Studies and English and American Literatures. He also teaches courses on African American literature, abolitionism, contemporary representations of enslavement, and modern urban African American culture.
 

Supporting the Whole Student: Resources on Campus
