Senior Work

Through internships, research assistantships, and study abroad as well as senior projects, we help our students explore their research interests outside the classroom.  This includes helping students apply for funding through the Undergraduate Research Office, the Rohatyn Center for Global Affairs, and the Center for Careers and Internships.   

As you approach your senior year, one or two-semester senior research projects are an option for any anthropology major.  Students who do senior research often consider this their most memorable academic experience at Middebury College. 

The best way to prepare for a senior project is to take the methodology course in the sophomore or junior year.  This gives you plenty of time to formulate your own research proposal on any topic you choose.  Then you will do your own research under the guidance of a departmental advisor.

Paige Osgood ’23

Paige excavated at the Vasagård site, Bornholm island, Denmark. Vasagård consists of megalithic tombs, dolmens, and passage graves dated to c. 3500 BC.

Daniel did research at the Mirieyi Refugee Settlement in Adjumani Province.
