Sound Investment Jazz Ensemble
The Sound Investment Jazz Ensemble is a large ensemble that continues Middlebury’s 90-year tradition of swing and jazz, performing a dynamic mix of contemporary jazz arrangements alongside timeless classics. The ensemble features the standard big band lineup—saxophones, trombones, trumpets, piano, guitar, bass, and drums—with occasional additions such as guest instrumentalists and vocalists.
Students earn one (1) academic credit for two semesters of participation, which also fulfills the music department’s performance ensemble requirement for majors. Members are strongly encouraged to take private lessons with the department’s affiliate artists, who offer instruction at a significantly discounted rate.
