During your time on the Middlebury-CMRS Oxford Humanities Program, you’ll live at St Michael’s Hall, a centrally located student residence designed to support both academic focus and a strong sense of community.

Right in the Heart of Oxford

St Michael’s Hall sits in central Oxford, just steps from Carfax - the historic crossroads of the city. From here, most things you’ll need are within easy walking distance: Keble College, libraries, cafés, grocery shops, museums, and green spaces.

Living so centrally means you experience Oxford as students do - walking to tutorials, meeting friends for coffee between classes, or simply wandering the city’s historic streets and discovering favourite spots along the way.

A Comfortable Student Community

The Hall includes:

  • Student bedrooms
  • Classrooms and study spaces
  • A shared kitchen
  • Social areas for relaxing and spending time together

The kitchen often becomes a social hub, where students cook meals together, swap recipes from home, or take a break from academic work. Informal movie nights, shared dinners, and spontaneous conversations are all part of everyday life.

Many students find that living together helps create a supportive academic environment too - it’s easy to compare notes, discuss readings, or encourage each other through busy weeks.

Support When You Need It

Two Junior Deans live on site and are available outside working hours to offer support and guidance. Their presence helps ensure students feel safe, comfortable, and well supported while adjusting to life abroad.

You’ll also have ongoing support from the Middlebury-CMRS team throughout your stay, combining independence with a reassuring safety net.

Independent Living, Oxford-Style

Living at St Michael’s Hall gives you the chance to experience genuine student independence while still benefiting from a built-in community. You’ll manage your own routines, explore the city at your own pace, and create a daily life that feels authentically yours.

For many students, housing becomes one of the most memorable parts of the experience - not just where they stayed, but where friendships formed, ideas were exchanged, and Oxford started to feel like home.
