Martin Abel joined the Economics faculty as an assistant professor in the fall of 2017 after completing his Ph.D. at Harvard University. He also holds a degree in economics from the University of Jena and a MPA in International Development from the Harvard Kennedy School.

Martin teaches courses in microeconomic theory and the economics of discrimination. His research interests are in development economics, labor economics, and behavioral economics. He is conducting field experiments focusing on topics of information asymmetries and discrimination in labor markets. In cooperation with the governments of South Africa and Saudi Arabia, he has worked on how to improve employment prospects of unemployed youths and women
