Professor Sohn is the program coordinator for the Korean Translation and Interpretation Program. She has over 25 years of experience as a conference interpreter, translator and educator. As a professional conference interpreter and translator she has worked with a clientele both in public and private sectors. She prides herself in being a versatile interpreter and translator working for a wide range of fields spanning from IT, business management, auto, sports and environment, etc. Throughout her extensive career she has interpreted for many high profile events, including the Olympics and high level government meetings. 

Professor Sohn devotes much of her time developing contents and pedagogy for teaching interpreting and translation for her MA students with a keen sense of changing market situation and needs both in Korea and the U.S. Her versatile professional experience is reflected in her teaching and she teaches almost every mode of courses in interpreting and translation that includes translation, consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting in both directions of Korean and English.

Areas of Interest

As an educator with strong professional interpreting and translation background, Professor Sohn values the importance of forming life-long mentorship relationship with her students throughout their career paths.

She is most interested in developing pedagogy for bringing professional aspects to the classroom teaching. Her research interests include identifying aptitude and skill set for translation and interpreting; assessment scheme for all stages of interpreting and translation training; evaluation and feedback; functionalist approach of translation and interpreting; language enhancement for translation and interpreting training.

She also focuses on helping students keep abreast of world affairs, interpreting and translation market situation and user expectations.
