Abstract:

Alex Newhouse - MIIS ’18 grad, online extremism researcher, and data governance analyst at Playstation - penned this paper for CTEC on the topic of evolving American Far Right fundraising methods.

Newhouse discusses how these methods have changed overtime to include expertise in digital fundraising methods. However, as payment processes and crowdfunding platforms clamp down on far-right groups they have faced increased challenges in utilizing online money transfer systems. This has paradoxically led such groups to pursue both cryptocurrency and far more traditional styles of money transfer, such as money orders and cheques.
