Campus Notes

Dear MIIS Community,

After so many months studying and working from home, we are excited to re-open our doors this Monday, August 16. To ensure the health and safety of our community, please remember to do your part by following these guidelines below.

Campus Reopens for Students on August 16. Beginning on Monday, August 16, students who are fully vaccinated or have an approved vaccine exemption will have access to campus without prior authorization. Many departments will have staff available to provide support and answer questions.  A full list of departmental operating hours is now posted. Common areas that will be available for student use are the Samson Student Center, the Holland Center, the McGowan Lobby, and the McCone Upper and Lower Atrium spaces.

100% COVID Vaccine Compliance is Within Our Reach! Given the increasing risk of COVID variants, it’s more important than ever that all members of the Institute community be vaccinated. Thanks to those of you who have done your part to keep our community safe! MIIS employee compliance is nearing 100%, but if you have not yet submitted your documents, please upload your vaccine card into the Sentry system today. Students who will be on campus this fall are required to get the vaccine by August 27 and upload their vaccine documentation into the Sentry system. Any student who anticipates arriving in Monterey without the vaccine should send a notification email to VPMIIS@middlebury.edu and then get their first vaccine as soon as possible after arrival. Information on finding locations for COVID vaccines and testing that are convenient to the MIIS campus can be found here.

Lanyards with MIIS ID are required on campus. Lanyards are available for pick-up from Security for all faculty, staff, and students. Please wear your lanyard at all times on campus unless in your personal office. Only faculty, staff, and students who are fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption are allowed on campus.

If you need a new MIIS ID card:

  • Upload a headshot photo to the MIIS directory. Be sure to log in with your Middlebury.edu email address and then click “Upload Photo” at the top of the web page.  A square photo is preferred.
  • E-mail miissecurity@middlebury.edu your name, Institute ID number, and best email address.
  • Security will make your ID card and notify you when it’s ready for pick-up in person.
  • Security is able to mail ID cards to online-only faculty, staff, and students. Follow this process and include your mailing address in your email to Security.

The buzz of activity is building as we prepare to open our doors. We look forward to seeing many of you in the coming weeks.

Sincerely,

Jeff Dayton-Johnson

Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Institute
