Tim Thomas Speaks to MIIS Students

Monterey History Talks: All Roads Lead to Monterey with Tim Thomas

Tim Thomas, fourth-generation native of the Monterey area, is a historian who has researched the Monterey Bay and Monterey’s fishing communities for close to thirty years. Tim has worked as a historical consultant for the Monterey Bay Aquarium and has developed programs for the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and California State Parks. He has also been frequently featured on PBS, BBC, and C-span. He is currently curating the JapaneseAmerican Heritage Center and is on the board of directors of the Monterey Japanese-American Citizens League. Tim has written multiple books on the history of Monterey, including The Abalone King of Monterey: “Pop” Ernest Doelter, Pioneering Japanese Fishermen, and The Culinary Classic that Saved an Industry.
