Immigrant communities in the United States have long confronted adversity in the face of national and state immigration policies. However, the rhetoric and actions of the current presidential administration have amplified the sense of fear and uncertainty within these communities. Monterey County is no exception; the palpable terror of family separation, detention, and deportation felt throughout the region has transformed the way residents live and work. This panel discussion will bring together diverse perspectives from law enforcement, legal aid, media, government, and civil society to offer an in-depth, holistic view of these challenges as well as strategies to address them in the local context.
