“The Nuns, the Priests, and the Bombs” is an award-winning documentary by writer, producer, and director Helen Young. The documentary follows plowshares activists, a movement that views the possession of nuclear weapons as immoral and illegal, in the aftermath of their daring 2012 break-in and protest at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which has been called the “biggest security breach in the history of the nation’s atomic complex.” The activists, who include octogenarian Catholic sisters and priests, also broke into Naval Base Kitsap in 2009 and Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay in 2018, the home ports of the navy’s submarine-based nuclear deterrent. Come learn about a segment of the antinuclear movement in the United States and the poor state of nuclear security at federal facilities. A discussion via video conference with filmmaker Helen Young follows the screening. Free and open to the Public.
