Cyber security is a field full of urban legends. Media and government reports commonly claim that cyberattacks are increasing in size, frequency, variety, etc. Yet when subjected to empirical scrutiny, many of these claims do not stand up. The challenge for tomorrow’s cyber security advisors is being able to sort fact from fiction.

Benjamin Dean, President of Iconoclast Tech and Fellow for the Center for Democracy and Technology, will apply economics, accounting, probability theory and other fields to problems in cyber security. Audience members will walk away with an understanding of where gaps in the evidence base exist and where improvements in measurement and analysis could be made. This will allow them to help decision-makers, in government and the private sector, identify where the real problems lie and develop workable solutions to these problems in the future.
