Storytelling, Environment, and Intercultural Action: A Graphic Novel about Maritime Strategy in Ghana
Join MIIS graduate Nick Tomb (MAIPS, 2002) as he talks about the creation and publication of his recently published graphic novel, The Adventures of Maritime Domain Awareness Man, an inspiring new story that ignites passion for environmental protection and advocacy featuring African heroes and folklore that will “edutain” younger generations to think about what is happening in our global waters and what they can do to save our seas. Nick serves as the lead of the Security Governance functional area at the Institute for Security Governance, Defense Security Cooperation University, Defense Security Cooperation Agency. He previously served as the Program Manager of the Africa Program at the Center for Civil Military Relations, where he worked on a multi-year project supporting the Government of Ghana to develop a National Integrated Maritime Strategy. Inspired by that experience, he self-published The Adventures of Maritime Domain Awareness Man in April 2023. He will speak about his experience working with the Government of Ghana on their maritime strategy and how/why that inspired him to write the book. He will also talk about the maritime issues facing the region/world—both challenges and potential solutions. Q. & A. to follow. Books will be available for sale at the event. Light refreshments provided.
