Barely able to keep so many stories locked in her head, Yvonne Tangang regularly produces poems, short stories, and songs. Despite being born in New Jersey and possessing American citizenship, Yvonne embraces her Cameroonian identity. Cameroon remains her home, even though she has not returned in many years. This second semester MPA student is comfortable communicating in three languages: English, Pidgin English, and Mbu. Yvonne loves the diversity of the MIIS community where so many people who come from different locations, represent rich cultures, and speak a variety of languages. Her passion for equality led Yvonne to join Allies at MIIS, in hopes of helping others to become allies, particularly those who discriminate due to a lack of knowledge. An ally preaches about diversity, but also practices it, with a genuine passion about the cause of fairness and equality. Individuals who have power to promote change should be allies. The ability to resolve conflict in a productive manner is an essential quality of an ally. The issues that affect women and children, especially in developing nations, motivate Yvonne, who wants to work to contain HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa.
