Christina Pineda is a first generation college graduate and Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies student. She identifies as a Chicanita from San Gabriel Valley in Southern California. She attended the University of Puget Sound in Washington state, where she experienced both snowfall and the “culture shock” of a predominantly white institution for the first time. Since then, Christina strives to expand narratives and institutions to include the perspectives of individuals and groups who have been silenced. She joins Allies at MIIS to orient her studies and experience at MIIS around racial equality and inclusion. Christina conceptualizes her commitment to equality as an introspective process that begins with deconstructing internal assumptions and biases. When the going gets tough she reminds herself: everyone wants a revolution; no one wants to do the dishes.
