As a language services Renaissance woman, Cris Silva has worn many different hats in the world of translation and interpretation: in-house translator, freelance translator and conference interpreter, consultant on all things Brazil, and, more recently, terminologist at the U.S. Census. She earned her Master of Arts in Translation from Kent State University, and holds a B.A. in English, French and Linguistics from the University of Kansas. She is currently working on the Master of Advanced Studies in Interpreter Training at the Université de Genève. She is certified by the American Translators Association and by ABRATES (the Brazilian Association of Translators and Interpreters) in English to Portuguese, Portuguese to English and has recently earned the Basic Level Certification from the European Certification and Qualification Association.
Silva is a sought-after presenter in translation conferences and associations, both in the USA and in Brazil, having delivered over 20 presentations and keynote addresses on topics as diverse as: remote interpreting, translator training, innovation in translation and interpretation and Portuguese language and culture.
Areas of Interest
Silva is passionate about the Portuguese language, translation, interpretation and her native country, Brazil. She loves teaching at MIIS and being at the forefront of the translation and interpretation education by using new curricular approaches and techniques to expose translation and interpretation students to a rigorous program, with real-world assignments, while exploring the role technology has in in translation and interpretation work. Her point of passion is to bring her experience as a Portuguese translator, localization specialist, conference interpreter, terminology manager, voice-over talent and cross-cultural consultant alive into the classroom.
