Imani Michelle Scott

Dr. Imani Michelle Scott is a scholar and consultant in the areas of human communication, conflict analysis and peacebuilding. Having worked fervently for the last two decades to advance the causes of peace, social justice and equity throughout the world, she has been honored to share the national and international stage with esteemed human and civil rights activists.

Through her custom-designed Peace Begins with Truth TM Workshops, Dr. Scott works diligently to facilitate training related to: (1) appreciating the inherent values in diversity, equity, and inclusion; (2) addressing the consequences of racial conflict, oppression and violence, and (3) moving beyond racism towards reconciliation, healing and social transformation. She has also conducted research and presentations on the topics of implicit racism, unconscious bias, domestic violence, school violence and dispiriting violence related to terrorism.

Scott holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Conflict Analysis and Resolution (Nova Southeastern University), a Master of Arts in Communication Studies (Montclair State University), and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts (Florida Atlantic University). As a Professor of Communication at the internationally acclaimed university for creative careers, the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD-ATL) she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Public Speaking, Intercultural Communication Skills and Leadership. As an adjunct instructor in the Graduate Program for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Dr. Scott serves as a research advisor.

In addition to having published in numerous scholarly journals and peer-reviewed books, Dr. Scott is editor of and contributing author to Crimes against Humanity in the Land of the Free: Can a Truth and Reconciliation Process Heal Racial Conflict in the United States? (2014), and co-editor and contributing author to Routledge Companion to Peace and Conflict Studies (2019). An award-winning writer, she is also a former contributor to the Huffington Post, and currently sits on the Editorial Board for the Peace Review and Storytelling, Self and Society Journals.

Dr. Scott has served on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education (AABHE), The Truth Telling Project of Ferguson (TTP), and the National Association of African American Studies (NAAAS). and the Editorial Board of Women and Language. She is also on the Speakers Bureau for the Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence, and a member of the Black Doctoral Network, the National Action Network, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
