Kaitlyn Throgmorton, from a little place called Colorado, is a Masters of Public Administration candidate in Monterey. Moving to this small town by the bay is the first time she has lived in California, the weather is nice here but the water doesn’t taste like the clean spring water of the Colorado Mountains. Before this, she lived in Madrid, Spain; Portland, Oregon; Morocco; and Australia. Exploring is a passion Kaitlyn learned at an early age when she had the opportunity to travel to Spain with a school group and she hasn’t stopped traveling to new places since. She is an active and life-long learner who tries to be aware of when she’s wrong and learn from her mistakes. The Allies at MIIS group grabbed her attention right away upon arriving to campus as a way to learn skills to engage in social issues of racial inequality locally, on an interpersonal scale. Recognizing and accepting her privileges has been the first step in her journey towards social justice work. There is a lot of work to do and Kaitlyn is excited to have the opportunity at MIIS to work towards positive changes. She hopes to continue finding her voice among the crowd to speak out against injustices from a perspective of mindfulness, awareness and compassion.
