Baltimore City will always be home, although I lived in Tokyo for a year, and now attend Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. During breaks, I rush home to see my sister, mother, father, and adorable cat. I went to performing arts high school where I spent half of my day dancing ballet, an activity which allows me to properly indulge my inner perfectionist. As a first-year at Swarthmore College I’ve enjoyed the academic freedom to take classes in the History and Peace and Conflict Studies departments. From brokering peace between stubborn middle school friends, to moderating intense discussions on the occupation of Palestine, gender equality, or fraternity violence, I’ve always been interested in peace-building. Navigating my adolescence in a country headed by a man who has, by example, encouraged people to express bigoted beliefs has only strengthened this interest. I’m looking forward to spending time this summer with others who in the marvelous words of John Green, are also dedicated to “decreasing world suck.”
