Campus Notes

Dear MIIS Campus Community,

If you have not yet familiarized yourself with our return-to-campus plans, please read them over at this link. As always, you can access previous messages on our return to campus website.

Now is the Time to Get Your COVID-19 Vaccine! Just a reminder that the COVID-19 vaccine is mandatory for all MIIS faculty, staff, and students for the fall 2021 semester, per the announcement released in mid-May. The deadline to comply with our vaccine policy by providing verification of full vaccination or submitting an exemption request is Monday, August 16. With the spread of COVID variants, community vaccination is our greatest defense against the spread of the virus.

Public health officials consider an individual to be fully vaccinated two weeks after their final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, so the dates vary depending on the vaccine. To be fully vaccinated by August 16, you will need to have received your initial dose by these dates:

  • July 5: Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (two doses, four weeks apart)
  • July 12: Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine (two doses, three weeks apart)
  • August 2: Janssen/Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine (a single dose)

The Monterey County Department of Health and the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula are both good resources for finding sites and appointments for the vaccine. Details on how you verify your vaccination to the Institute is forthcoming. Guidance on how to submit a request for a medical or religious exemption can be found on the MIIS vaccine webpage.

Students, Please Complete the Fall Enrollment Survey by July 15: The fall enrollment survey is now open. All students have received a unique link to the survey in their middlebury.edu email account. Please take five minutes to complete this survey to ensure we know your plans for the coming semester. If you are still uncertain about your options, reach out to your academic advisor (continuing students) or your enrollment advisor (newly admitted students) for guidance.

Student Welcome Week will be held the week of August 30, with several planned events on campus. While many Institute employees will be working hybrid home/campus schedules during the fall semester, all faculty and staff colleagues are encouraged to be on campus as much as is feasible between August 30 - September 10 to help welcome new and continuing students to campus. More information on Welcome Week and start-of-semester events will be shared with everyone as we get closer to the dates. Of course, a full schedule of virtual orientation and social events are planned to welcome remote students to the Institute community.

Sincerely,

Jeff Dayton-Johnson

VP of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Institute
