Campus Notes

Dear MIIS Campus Community,

Once again, we provide you an update on our continued planning efforts for returning to campus this fall. You can access previous messages on our return to campus website.

California Reopens on June 15: As many of you know, California’s governor has declared that the state will reopen next Tuesday, June 15. We will use new guidance coming from both the California Department of Public Health and the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health to finalize our plans for fall return to campus. Please note that general guidance may not be the same as workplace guidance, so we will be reviewing the new guidelines for workplaces carefully to help inform our decisions. If you would like to learn more about what the June 15 reopening means, visit this website. Please note that our current masking and social distancing requirements for those who are on campus remain in effect for now.

Get Vaccinated! California’s reopening provides another incentive to get vaccinated against COVID-19. As of June 15, vaccinated individuals will no longer need to be masked in most public spaces, with some exceptions such as public transportation, healthcare settings, and K-12 schools. As a reminder, Middlebury Institute faculty and staff who will be working on campus in the fall semester need to be fully vaccinated no later than August 16. Students should aim to be fully vaccinated in time for Welcome Week activities on August 30. Visit our COVID-19 Local Resources page for details on how and where you can obtain the vaccine.

We are heartened by the positive direction Monterey County and California are moving. I encourage you to protect our community and contribute to containing the virus by getting vaccinated.

Enjoy your weekend.

Sincerely,

Jeff Dayton-Johnson
