International Education Week (IEW) is a national event promoted by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education that celebrates the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. MIIS’ Director of Experiential Learning, Dr. Carolyn Meyer and the Experiential Learning Graduate Assistant, Nadia Pshonyak, travelled to CSUMB’s campus on November 15 to participate in their International Education Week activities.

The theme for IEW 2023 was Cultivating Global Citizenship Through International Education. Dr. Carolyn Meyer was the keynote speaker for the event and delivered an address on the theme. Following her address, 1 MIIS plus four CSUMB students spoke about their experiences studying abroad and how international education has impacted their studies. Among the panelists, we had students who had studied in Australia and Japan, a Gilman scholar, a returned Peace Corps volunteer, and international students from Norway and Turkmenistan. The wide variety of experiences and perspectives made for an interesting panel and led to some fruitful discussions.
