Shiyi Rong

Shiyi Rong is student from Tianjin who attended our Intensive ESL Program in the summer.

Why did you choose the Intensive ESL Program?

I chose the Intensive ESL Program because I want to improve my English. As an English major at Tianjin University of Science and Technology, I think it would be better for my future studies and career if I have the experience of living and studying at the English-speaking countries.

What made the program a special experience for you?

The things that ESL taught me go beyond the knowledge itself. I met so many different people there and felt and understood the cultural differences between us. I learned things from everyone which have made me see the world in a more open mind and a brand new perspective. Of course, going back to the program itself, I think my English has improved a lot after this experience.

How do you plan to use your English skills?

I plan to do English-related jobs in the future. English has been a global language to some extent. And I regard it as a bridge to learn different cultures and languages. So I hope I can communicate with people around the world by speaking English which is very rewarding to me.

What’s next for you?

I’m preparing for my postgraduate application. Currently, my major is English Translation & Interpretation in university. I have a big interest in language learning and MIIS is one of the top in this field. Thus, I will apply for postgraduate program of MIIS.
