Director of Residential Life
Saiya Yanagihashi is the Director of Residence Life at the Middlebury Institute. Saiya received her master’s in higher education administration and a certificate in academic advising in July of 2021 from Sam Houston State University. Previously, Saiya has served as a Residence Hall Director at Sam Houston State University. There she oversaw apartment buildings, residence halls, and sorority housing for 500 students and 10 RAs. Saiya holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in environmental studies from Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin. At Edgewood College, Saiya was deeply involved in the rewriting of the student handbook, making it more equitable for all students. Issues on social justice, inclusion, Title IX, LGBTQIA*, and student wellbeing are what drives Saiya to work in Student Affairs.

Middlebury President Laurie Patton joined Dean of the Institute Jeff Dayton-Johnson and Monterey city officials to celebrate the opening of the first student residence hall in the 66-year history of the Middlebury Institute.
