International Education Management (IEM) alumna Kaitlin Huemer and her colleagues won an international education case study competition at the NAFSA all-region summit.

Kaitlin Huemer MAIEM ’19 and colleagues Karena Louise Cronin and Beth Nazar won a case study competition at the NAFSA: Association of International Education 2021 All-Region Summit. Each team spent three weeks developing a proposal for senior university administrators and addressing the goals and challenges of international education. Judges were impressed by the winning team’s inclusion of broad perspectives, creative solutions to budgetary challenges, and innovative strategies for involving stakeholders.

Huemer, serving now as assistant director of global education at Hartwick College, commented, “I attribute my team’s success to our broad outlook and creative yet realistic solutions for how to address comprehensive internationalization in the higher education context. I drew upon many of the concepts covered in my IEM courses as well as the day-to-day challenges of working in a two-person office tasked with internationalizing our entire campus and identifying new revenue streams to support our efforts.” Huemer was recently selected as the NAFSA Region X conference planner designate.

IEM professor Katherine Punteney shared, “Katie and her teammates did an excellent job of connecting their individual experiences to the broader research and theory of the field. This is the hallmark of a scholar-practitioner and what makes so many IEM alumni leaders in international education. We are delighted to congratulate Katie and her teammates!”
