Community Career Fair 2017
The first-ever Middlebury Institute Community Career Fair connected students with 25 local organizations offering employment and internship opportunities.

The first-ever Community Career Fair was held at the Middlebury Institute on Thursday, September 14, connecting students with local organizations. “The idea was first brought to my attention by Career Advisor Edy Rhodes last year,” says Director of Employer Relations Bryce Craft. “We ran a pilot program connected with the 2016 Community Resource Fair inviting 10 organizations. It was a great success so we decided to make this a stand-alone event.”

Craft says the original plan was to cap the attendance to 20 employers but there was such an interest that they expanded the fair to include 24 organizations. “Walking around the event, I was very proud of our students.”

Following is a list of the local organizations represented at the fair:

  • Driscoll’s
  • Big Sur Land Trust
  • MEarth
  • MediaLocate
  • Monterey Bay Aquarium
  • Moravia
  • Red Cross
  • Dorothy’s Place
  • Big Sur Marathon
  • Nordic Naturals
  • Monterey Mushrooms
  • United Way Monterey County
  • Language & Professional Programs at the Middlebury Institute
  • Monterey Bay Internships
  • Big Sur International Marathon
  • Monterey Bay International Trade Association
  • Central Coast Kids & Families
  • Monterey County Reads
  • Lyceum of Monterey County
  • Monterey Language Services
  • dKomplex, Inc.
  • Paymentwall
  • Global Majority
  • Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project ACLED

“I couldn’t be more excited about the initial feedback from employers,” Craft says and adds that many of them expressed their enthusiasm and excitement for next steps after interacting with the students. “Overall, it was a success. I can’t wait to hear about the career opportunities that were forged as a result of the 2017 Community Career Fair!”
