The Monterey Institute celebrated another great year in 2013, highlighted by wonderful student achievements, strong employment numbers for graduates, and visits by the UN Secretary-General and the former president of Kyrgyzstan.
Downtown Monterey was wrapped in cheer on Saturday, December 14, as friends and family applauded the 94 outstanding individuals accepting their new degrees from the Monterey Institute at its Winter Commencement ceremony.
Middlebury College President Ron Liebowitz announced significant changes to the governance structure of the College and the Monterey Institute of International Studies, while also sharing his plans to step down as president in June 2015.
“When a woman thrives, a family thrives and when a family thrives, a community thrives,” said Tonya Antle, trailblazer and philanthropist in the final talk of the day at TEDxMonterey Women, inspiring a standing ovation from the audience in the sold-out auditorium.
Student Services staff at the Monterey Institute knows that the last week of the semester can be a very stressful time for students, so they offer a variety of relaxing activities such as a chance to cuddle visiting puppies, free massages, and the chance to decorate a gingerbread house.
The Monterey Institute recently launched a ReadyCam video broadcast studio that offers easy media access to our Monterey-based faculty and staff experts such as Dr. Jeffrey Lewis of CNS, who was interviewed on PBS Newshour last week.
