Loan Instructions

We look forward to helping you through the financial aid process.

Once you have accepted the loan(s) offered to you in your Middlebury Financial Aid Portal, please complete the following steps:

1. Complete Entrance Counseling 

  • Go to https://studentaid.gov/entrance-counseling/
  • Log in with your FSA ID
  • Complete Entrance Counseling Modules
  • At the end, you will have the opportunity to view and print the Borrower’s Rights and Responsibilities Statement
  • Notification of your completed Entrance Counseling will be sent to Middlebury electronically

2. Complete Master Promissory Note for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans

  • Go to https://studentaid.gov/mpn/
  • Log in with your FSA ID
  • Complete the required information, review the agreements, sign electronically and submit
  • At the end, you will have the opportunity to view and print the completed MPN
  • Notification of your completed MPN will be sent to Middlebury electronically

Please note that there are separate MPNs for Direct and Graduate Plus loans. If you are applying for a Graduate PLUS loan, please complete steps 4 and 5 below. 

3. Complete Graduate PLUS Loan Application

  • Go to https://studentaid.gov/plus-app/grad/landing
  • Log in with your FSA ID
  • Complete the required information, review the agreements, sign electronically and submit
  • At the end, you will be notified of your credit decision
  • Notification of your completed PLUS Loan application will be sent to Middlebury electronically

4. Complete Master Promissory Note for Direct PLUS Loans

  • Go to https://studentaid.gov/mpn/
  • Log in with your FSA ID
  • Complete the required information, review the agreements, sign electronically and submit
  • At the end, you will have the opportunity to view and print the completed MPN
  • Notification of your completed MPN will be sent to Middlebury electronically
