Programs Accepting New Students in 2026
In August 2025, Middlebury’s Board of Trustees voted to close all in-person programs and two online programs at the Middlebury Institute.
We are committed to supporting current students in completing their degrees by summer 2027.
Summer 2026
In summer 2026, we will only take new enrollments in the following programs:
- Online programs not affected by the closure decision: Cybersecurity, Localization Project Management, MPA in Sustainability, and Organizational Leadership.
Fall 2026
In fall 2026, we will only take new enrollments in the following programs:
- Online programs not affected by the closure decision: Cybersecurity, Localization Project Management, MPA in Sustainability, and Organizational Leadership.
- Exchange students from Middlebury Schools Abroad partners (e.g., Sciences Po Bordeaux), CSUMB, and the Naval Postgraduate School.
We are no longer enrolling students in any of our other programs.
Enrollment Policies
In order to graduate by the summer 2027 close of the Middlebury Institute, students who enroll must take the appropriate number of courses each semester to graduate on time.
- Students cannot take time off (leave of absence) and return to the program. If you need to take time off for any reason, you will effectively drop out of the program.
- Students cannot take a reduced credit load that would extend the length of the program.
- Our regular refund policy will be in place for the current semester.
Student Experience
The channels of institutional support, financial and logistical, that augment and complement your core classroom experience will remain in place during the final academic years of the Middlebury Institute. That includes, but is not limited to:
- Experiential learning grants
- Conflict Transformation Initiative awards
- Funding for conference travel
- Support for clubs and student organizations (with the help of your elected representatives from the Student Advocacy Council)
- Monterey-based career counseling and preparation from the Center for Advising and Career Services
- J-Term and Spring Semester Global Courses
- Professional Service Semester and Program Practicum experiences for course credit
- Fellowships and research assistant positions in our research centers and initiatives
- Campus employment
We are committed to maintaining these opportunities at similar levels to past years.
