Programs Accepting New Students in 2026
In August 2025, Middlebury’s Board of Trustees decided to close all in-person programs and two online programs at the Middlebury Institute.
We are in the process of a teachout for our current students, and we are committed to ensuring they complete their degrees by summer 2027. The following programs are available for new student enrollment.
Online Programs
The following online programs remain open for enrollment in 2026 and beyond:
- MS in Cybersecurity
- MA in Localization Project Management
- MPA in Sustainability
- MA in Organizational Leadership
Two of our online programs are closing:
- MA in TESOL: We will accept new students in spring 2026 (final cohort).
- MA in International Education Management: due to course sequencing, we can no longer accept new students in this program.
Spring 2026
We will enroll new students in spring 2026 for some programs that can be completed in three semesters or fewer to meet the summer 2027 deadline. The following programs are available for a spring 2026 start:
- MA in Global Governance and Policy
- MA in International Policy and Development
- MA in Threat Intelligence
- MA in TESOL (online program)
- Certificate in Terrorism Studies
- Certificate in Nonproliferation Studies
Only Accelerated Entry (three-semester program) and/or Advanced Entry (two-semester program) for the following programs are available for a spring 2026 start:
- MA in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies: Accelerated Entry and Advanced Entry
- MA in Translation and Localization Management (TLM): Accelerated Entry
- If you plan on taking translation courses as part of the TLM program, you need to submit the Language and Skills Test by October 20, 2025.
We will also accept non-degree students in all of our programs.
- Students taking one or two courses (learning paths)
- Exchange students (e.g., Naval Postgraduate School and CSUMB)
- Study Away for current undergraduate students
Please note the following additional information about spring 2026 enrollment:
- Foreign Area Officers should pursue the 12-month versions of our programs.
- Due to program length, course sequencing, and/or course availability, we are not able to enroll new students in any other programs that are not listed above.
Enrollment Policies
As all programs need to be completed by summer 2027, students who enroll must take the appropriate number of courses each semester to graduate on time.
- Students cannot take time off (leave of absence) and return to the program. If you need to take time off for any reason, you will effectively drop out of the program.
- Students cannot take a reduced credit load that would extend the length of the program.
- Our regular refund policy will be in place for the current semester.
Enrollment Support
We will continue to provide the key resources to allow you to enroll in spring 2026, including the following:
- Scholarships
- Support for education loans
- Support for international students (including visa-related activities)
- How to Apply video guides
If you want to receive future communications about application deadlines, scholarships, and other enrollment support, please start a spring 2026 application.
Application Deadlines
Fall 2026
We are still determining if any programs will allow new students to enroll in fall 2026. We will update this section by October 24, 2025, and email prospective students once we have that information.
