“Toppling Tyranny: Understanding the Militia Movement’s Role in the January 6th Insurrection and Beyond”

In March 2022, the Center on Terrorism, Extremism, and Counterterrorism was asked to provide two statements for the record for the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol. This statement, written by CTEC’s Senior Research Scholar Matt Kriner and CTEC Senior Research Fellow Amy Cooter, covers the role of militia and Patriot movements in the culmination of the January 6th Capitol insurrection.
