Adel Arlett MANPTS ’20 publishes paper analyzing how geospatial tools can be used for countering terrorism.
The paper was written for and published by Hungary’s Center for Strategic and Defense Studies. It is a great starting point for getting to know the regional activity of Boko Haram. Arlett is an intern at Hungary’s Center for Strategic and Defense Studies and also at Hedayah, the International Center of Excellence for Countering Violent Extremism, based in Abu Dhabi.
In the paper, Arlett says:
“Satellite imagery and other Google Earth related tools can provide support to observe the specifics of a regional terrorist organization and its fields of action. Knowing of this data is crucial for intelligence as they can contribute to the formulation of counter-terrorism strategies, various aid methods and many other policies.”
A special thanks for Jimi Fordyce, Joseph Patsch, Tobias Armour, and Grace Liu for contributing to complete the study. To read the full report in Hungarian, click here.
