The Center on Terrorism, Extremism, and Counterterrorism is excited to announce that Sarah Pollack will be the new Director of Tech Policy and Strategy.

Sarah Pollack is a trust and safety and public affairs expert focused on countering terrorism, violent extremism, and their relationships to other online harm spaces. Pollack has a long and impressive career, from leading communications for Meta’s global counter-terrorism and violent extremism program to advising tech companies, non-profit organizations, and academic research collectives on online trust and safety. Working with leading tech-led initiatives focused on child safety and counterterrorism, Pollack has designed successful strategies for launching and enhancing cross-platform technical solutions that increase prevention and detection capabilities through responsible information-sharing and well-informed policies and practices.

Pollack has further advised and led company and organizational leadership teams on meaningful stakeholder engagement work that informs and improves trust and safety practices, and she has presented these essential practices to global leaders such as the United Nations Security Council, worldwide media outlets, senior government officials, and experts working in civil society and academia. Passionate about this work and the global community of professionals dedicated to combating harm online, Pollack will continue supporting efforts to make the internet a safer place in this new role.

The addition of Pollack, marks a time of exciting growth at CTEC, overseen by interim Executive Director Katharine Petrich. Petrich says: “We are so excited to have Sarah join the CTEC team. Her unique suite of skills and experiences would be a major asset to any organization and we are particularly pleased to bring them into CTEC, especially as we look to the future.”

Pollack is also looking forward to her new role at CTEC.  “Having followed and learned from CTEC’s important work countering terrorism online with the tech industry for years, I am thrilled and grateful for the opportunity.
