Abstract:

Middlebury Institute alumna Paula Granger (MANPTS ‘19) analyses the contribution of climate change to the rise of the Islamic State in this CTEC Publication.

Granger outlines the impact of severe climate conditions on the populations of Iraq and Syria and examines how the Islamic States capitalized on these conditions to further their own agenda. This paper emphasizes the importance of considering climate change in analytic decision matrices.
