Director of CTEC Jason Blazakis was quoted by ProPublica in a recent article entitled, “Trump Cheers as Pakistan Rounds Up the Usual Suspect in Mumbai Case.

The article covers Trump’s response to the arrest of Hafiz Saeed, the leader of Lashkar-e-Taiba, an Islamist militant group held responsible for the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Despite Trump’s triumphant tweet stating that the arrest of Saeed was due to pressure his administration has exerted on Pakistan over the last 2 years, Director Blazakis cautions that “the U.S. should interpret this as a small step…Any conclusion that this is a paradigm shift in Pakistan’s larger treatment of Lashkar is grossly naive.” He further commented that even if Saeed remains detained, it is likely he will continue to exert authority over Lashkar.
