CTEC Director and Middlebury Institute professor Jason Blazakis recently penned an op-ed on President Trump’s decision to kill IRGC - Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani. Professor Blazakis stressed that President Trump’s decision risks spiraling tensions out of control.

Professor Blazakis goes on to clarify:
“The Jan. 2 targeted killing of Soleimani represents a dangerous escalation. Iran’s response will put U.S. assets, and likely innocent civilians, in harm’s way. The United States must turn to a mix of smart sanctions, surgical strikes, covert action, and proxy moves to keep steady pressure on Iran without exacerbating the situation.”
