CTEC forms new partnership with OpenAI

CTEC has formed a partnership with OpenAI to study the potential use of sophisticated language models by extremists and terrorists. OpenAI, a non-profit whose founders include Elon Musk and Sam Altman, seeks to “ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity.” 

CTEC Researcher Alex Newhouse says, “We’re investigating the ways that extreme actors may fine-tune language models to scale up information operations, public relations and radicalization efforts.” CTEC and OpenAI will be able to explore potential abuse of language models and its effects on the field of counterterrorism.
