Note on Remote Access

You may be prompted to log in using your Middlebury email and password in order to access library materials remotely. If you are logged in to a Middlebury account in another window, you may not be prompted to log in. Access to library-licensed materials is restricted to current students, faculty, and staff.

If you begin at a search engine like Google, you may not be prompted to log in and your access as a Middlebury student, faculty or staff member may not be recognized.

Accessing Library Resources from Off Campus

This video will show you how to access Middlebury Institute Library resources from off campus. For more library video tutorials, check out our video collection.

This video will show you how to access Middlebury Institute Library resources from off campus.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you should always access these resources through a library webpage. This could be through LibrarySearch, the electronic resources list, or a research guide. Doing this will make sure that the database recognizes you as a member of the Middlebury Institute community and grants you full access.

You should see this login page. Use your usual Middlebury Institute login credentials.

If you attempt to access resources from off campus by going through some other portal—for example, Google Scholar — you will not be going through the library, so it is quite possible that you will not be given full access.

If you’re prompted to pay for access to an item, check to see if you’re logged in as someone affiliated with Middlebury Institute.

Another way to gain access to an item is by submitting an interlibrary loan (ILL) request. If you’re having trouble accessing something that you want, contact a Middlebury Institute librarian by emailing library-miis@middlebury.edu or chat with a librarian in real time via the “Chat with a Librarian” box on the library website.
