News Stories

Welcome back to CTEC in the News! A quick reminder that today is the last day to apply for our Spring 2021 Michael Donnelly Fellowship. The application will close at 11:00 PM PST, so if you are a MIIS student who is interested in applying you should hop over to Handshake and apply!

Here’s what we’ve been up to this week:

Speaker Event

On Wednesday we, along with the Rohatyn Center for Global Affairs and Middlebury College’s Global Security Studies Program, co-hosted a speaker event with Morten Hjørnholm on effective strategies developed and implemented by Denmark to prevent violent extremism, and how the Danish model can be contextualized for other settings around the world. For anyone who was unable to join us, a recording of this event can be found on YouTube.

Terrorism Sanctions

He argued that elements of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) that relate to FTO designations were rendered obsolete by contemporary use of the internet by terrorist groups to connect across the globe, and that deadlines needed to be established for FTO reviews. He asserted that by amending the INA, the Biden administration would ensure a factually credible and dynamic FTO list.

That’s all for now, folks! We’ll be back with more CTEC in the News after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Our work is made possible by research grants and gifts from supporters. We appreciate your generosity.
