Middlebury Institute graduates discuss where they are working today, how the Institute helped them get there, and what advice they’d give to current and future MIIS students.

My name is Jiahui (Jaffee) Lu and I graduated with an MA in Conference Interpretation from the Middlebury Institute in 2013. My language pair was Chinese-English. Prior to coming to Monterey, I earned my BA at Shanghai Jiao Tong University

I am now CEO of Cymo.io, a remote conferencing platform for multilingual conferences based in Beijing, China. My work as a conference interpreter after graduating in 2013 led me to pursue a new but related focus: building multilingual conference interpretation technologies. While I enjoy interpreting, I found my passion in creating software solutions to support conference interpreters. In addition to founding Cymo.io, I also cofounded Translavie Consulting, a new-generation localization service provider.

My career path benefited a great deal from connections with the Institute’s alumni network and support from faculty. While in Monterey I participated in many activities related to my studies, including an interpretation practicum, Spring Forum, and Fall Forum.

My advice for current students is simple: seek, and you shall find!
