Middlebury Institute graduates discuss where they are working today, how the Institute helped them get there, and what advice they’d give to current and future MIIS students.
My name is Seongji Kim and I graduated with an MA in Translation and Localization Management from the Middlebury Institute in 2019. Before coming to Monterey, I received my BA from Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea. I am now a program manager for localization product strategy at Google in Mountain View, California.
While still in school I was an intern and then a localization manager for an education technology start-up. I found my current job via a referral by a Middlebury Institute alumna—she recommended me to someone who referred me to the localization team at Google.
My best advice for current students is to know what you want to do and where you want to be, and work backward to create a roadmap that can get you there. Branch out beyond technical localization knowledge, hone your general professional skills, and build your business acumen. Learn as much as you can outside of the classroom; that’s where you can make a difference.
