    Weekly VP Update January 21

    | by Jeff Dayton-Johnson

As the winter break nears its end – and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to campus – we continue to monitor closely the rapidly-evolving COVID-19 situation, including changes in public health guidance. I encourage you to read these weekly updates carefully to stay informed of campus protocols and practices, which will likely change alongside changes in the Omicron situation. Keep in mind that the best protection against COVID-19 and its variants is to get your booster and wear a well-fitting mask.

COVID-19 Testing Requirements Following Winter Break for Munras Housing Residents

    | by Jeff Dayton-Johnson

In an effort to minimize possible transmission of COVID-19 among those living in residential housing, current residents who left Munras Housing over the winter break and students who are new to Munras housing, regardless of vaccination status, must: (1) provide proof of a negative PCR COVID-19 test (also known as a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT)), taken within 72 hours of their arrival (24 hours before departure for those returning from outside of the U.S.); (2) take a rapid COVID-19 test at arrival; and (3) take a PCR COVID-19 test four days after arrival. Antigen testing is not a NAAT and is not considered a valid pre-arrival test.

    Bi-weekly VP Update December 10

    | by Jeff Dayton-Johnson

The recent increase in COVID-19 cases at Middlebury College reminds us, in case we needed reminding, of the importance of continuing to follow our safety protocols with discipline.  In the meantime, the new Omicron variant was detected over the Thanksgiving holiday, and many cases have now been reported in the U.S. Omicron is thought to be even more transmissible than the Delta variant and might evade some of the protection provided by vaccines.
